The Hottest Spot North Of Havana

She's a regular (daily) at the Parkview Diner in Brooklyn. This day she wore a sparkly gold patterned mini dress. Another day, she wore blue step-in short-shorts. Always in showgirl heels. Always with her jewels, her altitudinous cotton-candy hair and her full "face" on.

Her escort was much more staid, although he accessorized with patent leather shoes and matching belt (one day, white; another day, baby blue).

San Geraldo is convinced she's a former showgirl. She's too young for the Ziegfeld Follies. Maybe a Rockette?

Maybe not.

She would merengue and do the cha cha...

Maybe... but she doesn't make an entrance doing high kicks.

  2. Love her! And, oh, to have seen his baby blue belt. I feel like they have some stories to tell. You have inspired me to try and find occasion to use the word "altitudinous" soon. :)

The second time we saw them, they sat in a booth immediately behind my back. Their personalities were disappointingly ... well... whiney! Still, the cotton candy hair WAS altitudinous.

  3. I wonder if she was always so flashy or just developed a taste for it later in life....very colorful! And definitely memorable.

That doesn't strike me as a look you adopt later in life. I'm guessing she was always flashy and then found THAT specific look in the 60s and latched onto it.

That might be all that's holding everything together!

  5. Whoever she is, she is fabulous!

I wonder if her hair is real or cotton candy?

I wonder if there's a third option (other than real or cotton candy). Orlon is a possibility.

Sadly, the second time they were there, we heard them talking and decided it would NOT be fun conversation.

  7. She ROCKS! Good on her for being whom she wants to be.
I wonder as well if she was a showgirl of some sort or just someone who loves to dress up.
    Great photo.....images in NYC.

  8. If you spotted her as a regular, I guess you must have been a regular too! She could sure teach the plaids and stripes crew a thing or 2 about style.

Jerry was told by the hostess that they were regulars, but we did see them a second time after that. It's a good diner, but the real reason we went so often was because it's got a parking lot. It's one of the few places near my mother's apartment at which you can actually park!

Very generous, but no thanks. We heard their conversation and their unpleasantness ordering. NOT fun for us.

Amazingly, I didn't pick up any fragrance. Now that you mention it, I would have expected a really heavy cloud of perfume.

  11. Good grief!!!! She could have been maybe a cabaret starlette. But good god, that blue eye shadow. I don't know a woman outside a drag queen that's wears blue!!! God love her. There is a very outlandish couple in New Hope here, probably in their early 80's. They are much like this lady. The lady is often mistaken for a drag queen. The town love them and they dance all night to the latest club music, and the guy will even grind with her!!!!

I think she adopted that blue eye shadow style in the '60s and stuck with it.

  12. Must chop hours out of her everyday routine to manage to end up like that, especially considering that she must look frightful first thing every morning. (Some might say she already....... No, I will NOT say it!)

I wonder if she goes to bed in full make-up and wraps her hair in toilet paper to protect it.

  13. What a wonderful strong character she must be! I do so much admire people who follow their own dress code, there used to be a lady in a neighbouring town who dressed similarly - I loved the occasions when we were able to have a converse together - Hurrah ! For individuality I say.

Welllll, when we overheard their conversation, we were disappointed at how UN-daring they were. Listening to them decide what kind of toast to order and how it should be done was painful.

Definitely an original. I think she found her "look" in the '60s and never wavered.
