Muddy Waters

It's been raining. That's an understatement. We were well below normal rainfall until this week. I don't know where we are now, except under water. It's beautiful (I say). It's awful (San Geraldo says). However, I will admit it limits what we can do — except on our newly enclosed terrace!

(Click the images for a flash flood.)

ONE OF VERY FEW PEOPLE ON THE STREET (AS SEEN FROM ABOVE).
FROM THE DRY AND CYCLONIC-WIND–FREE TERRACE.
STANDING IN FRONT OF OUR BUILDING AT 11:00.
DEBATING HOW FAR TO WALK FOR COFFEE.
BAR BARBORU, BELOW OUR BUILDING, SEEMS LIKE A GOOD IDEA.
AROUND THE CORNER EARLY THIS MORNING
(ROBBIE, THE CHEF AT BARBORU, SHARED THE PHOTO WITH ME.)
THE USUALLY DRY CHANNEL NEARBY.
MUDDY WATERS FLOWING DOWN FROM THE MOUNTAINS...
...AND CARVING A WIDER CHANNEL INTO THE MEDITERRANEAN SEA.
BACK ON THE TERRACE.
STILL DRY AND CYCLONIC-WIND–FREE!

Appropriate music for the day...

  1. That picture by Robbie set a great example of what is going on. Climate change is happening and some people do not want to see it. There are ample puddles in the third basement of our parking lot! We got wet feet!

We're so looking forward to a day of sunshine! Hope you saw the double rainbow this afternoon. That really helped!

We've heard that we're supposed to have a break for a few days. Really looking forward to it.

  3. No more cyclonic winds for you guys!! This is a good test for your new terrace sun-room.
With the right rain-gear there's nothing better than a walk in the rain Great photos, Mitch!

The "glass curtain" has changed everything! Unfortunately, I don't have the right rain gear. I bought a long, hooded "raincoat" last year. It's not waterproof!

  6. I'd say you did the terrace project just in the perfect time! Did you want to borrow my canoe?

We were so lucky with the timing of the project. Beautiful every day. We're waiting now to do some touch-up painting... but that doesn't matter.

  7. We have had almost 45 days of rain with the minor sunny break (meaning that it still rained that day at some point). We are all pretty sick of it. That enclosed patio was such a good idea, so much nicer.

We complain after 2 days, which is why we don't live where you live. We're not hardy enough!

  8. Very similar to our view right now - even the palm trees look sad. We expect to see the sun again by Tuesday or Wednesday. Your gorgeous terrace must be a wonderful place to sit and watch the rain. Is that a white amaryllis blooming in the next to last photo? Looks like you have a whole tray of them started; what a show that will be! Where is your car?

We're expecting a break Monday through at least Wednesday. It will be appreciated. But everything looks so clean (except the beach)!

  12. Do I remember correctly that you like sherry? I'd be sitting on that terrace, enjoying the rain while sipping some sherry.... no wading those puddles for me!

Sounds like a great idea. But we've been unusually busy this week with lots of nice social things. So we whine and then go out in the weather and enjoy ourselves (once we're inside and dry again).
