Kicking Down The Cobble Stones

Tuesday, on my day off (click here), I took the subway to Brooklyn Bridge Park. The park didn't exist when I lived here (but that was more than 35 years ago). It's gorgeous and continues to grow north and south along the East River. The park began on the former Port Authority piers south of the bridge. Click here to learn more about the park.

"The 59th Street Bridge Song" (aka "Feeling Groovy")...

NOTE: The 59th Street Bridge (aka the Queensboro Bridge) does not appear in this post. I have clearly been away too long. My thanks to Walt at WCS blog for setting me straight (or at least gayly forward). Hope you enjoy the music anyway!

  1. Just saw the Simon& Garfunkel Central Park (I think?) concert on PBS last night :) From way back some time ages ago.

  3. Thanks for clearing that up for me. The Williamsburg Bridge was the 59th Street Bridge. Your song choice was what I thought you would post. Now, this carousel? It is remarkably similar to the one we saw which I thought was on the New Jersey side. Are there two or do have my location wrong and they are the same, taken from different angles? http://highriser.blogspot.com.au/2015/08/day-19-us-0907-ny-river-cruise-911-pt-1.html

    1. Andrew:
I screwed up. 59th Street Bridge is the Queensboro Bridge! Sorry about that!

  4. If you go there on a weekend, you can get tasty overpriced artisan food:

  5. Um, I think the 59th St. Bridge is the Queensboro Bridge. The Williamsburg Bridge is much too far south and, in fact, hits Manhattan at Delancy St.

Other than that, fantastic photos as always!

  6. A day off is requisite for sanity. Absolutely delighted your mother is doing so well and that things will soon be more normal. Missing you; the internet is being an arschloch of late, so not around quite as much.
Moose and Dudo will be thrilled to have you home, once they've forgiven you of course.

  7. Looks like you had an enjoyable (and well-deserved!) day off, Mitchell. Hope it won't be too long before the DD is kicking down the cobblestones with you.

  8. Such majestic bridges! And I hope they do keep those cobblestones and rails intact....what an historical treasure to have and see.
Thanks for this bit of 'touring' around your 'hood'.

  10. I think it was around 1959 I visited my sister who lived in Manhattan. My dad & I took a Grey line boat tour around the island.... I sang "George Washinton Bridge" (changing the words to the appropriate bridge ) as we passed under each one. You have to use your imagination ;-)
